Exciting Weekend/Emergent Lies
August 30, 2008
Jeff Hill and I are going to be doing some Bible study tonight, which I’m really looking forward to, since I have a lot of questions about things. We’re also hanging out with a few of our friends tonight which should be fun too.
I used to really like the book Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell, that is, until God made me aware of my error in doing so. He painted a picture of traditional (read:doctrine-focused) Christianity where people are trying to get everyone to believe the right things. If they don’t believe the right things, then they don’t fit in. He portrayed this in a negative light. But here’s the thing:
God Exists.
Absolute truth exists.
The Bible is God’s Word. (literally “God-breathed”)
If something is not true, it is false.
Therefore, peoples’ beliefs fall on one side or the other.
So who cares if Rob Bell doesn’t like the fact that truth divides people. I don’t like the fact that gravity makes me fall if I trip over something. But I accept the fact that it exists and it cannot be changed. Watering down your so-called Christianity to stop divisions means you’re not preaching absolute truth.
